Frequently Asked Questions
OutreachPro allows users to create customizable
outreach materials to help educate, recruit, and raise
awareness about Alzheimer’s and related dementias
clinical research. This includes materials promoting
new and ongoing Alzheimer’s and related dementias
studies.
Customizing materials and setting up an account is
free. The only costs you may incur are those
associated with printing, publishing, and delivery of
materials created through the platform. OutreachPro is
designed to help users produce the original/source
files for educational and recruitment materials. It
also provides some guidance on the best use of
materials generated through OutreachPro.
Part of the NIH, The National Institute on Aging (NIA)
developed the Outreach Pro site, content, and material
templates. To develop the content, NIA conducted
literature reviews, environmental scans, listening
sessions with stakeholders, focus groups, national
surveys, and user testing.
OutreachPro templates have been tested using both
qualitative and quantitative methods among high
priority audiences featured in the OutreachPro
materials. This included a mix of caregivers and
individuals at-risk for Alzheimer's disease and
related dementias. Audience testing was also organized
by health status, ethnicity and language spoken
(including English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese,
Tagalog, and Hindi).
Users can create customizable materials to educate
communities both about brain health and clinical
studies as well as describe and recruit for a specific
study (e.g., study-specific materials). Materials may
be generated in a variety of outreach formats such as
handouts, brochures, social media images, videos and
more.
Images and materials generated through OutreachPro
templates are intended for the sole purpose of
educating communities about brain health and
Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias’ research
opportunities and are considered fair use. All other
use is prohibited. Materials are subject to users’ IRB
processes. Websites are subject to both users’ IRB
processes and NIA approval. The public may reproduce
without permission information from the National
Institute on Aging website, except for documents that
state another copyright policy applies to them. More
in-depth information can be found on the
NIA policies page.
At this time, video customization is not available.
The goal of study-specific materials is to create
customized materials for your specific clinical
studies. To that end, OutreachPro users will provide
vital study information that is useful to potential
participants such as the length and goal of study,
associated risks and benefits, costs and compensation,
study contact information, location(s), etc.
Customized OutreachPro materials can be downloaded
from the user’s account (“My Materials”). Users may
share this documentation with their IRB. Please note:
General IRB materials are not available on
OutreachPro. Please consult with your IRB for
additional documentation and requirements, as may
apply.
After creating an account or logging in, users may
access saved materials and studies in their user
account (“My Materials”).
Materials are automatically saved to your user account
(“My Materials”) and are available for immediate
download upon completion of the data entry and
materials selection process. Users may preview, edit,
and download previously saved materials by clicking on
the appropriate icons in the Actions column of “My
Materials”.
Navigate to the existing study in “My Materials” and
click on the “Study Materials” icon in the Actions
column.
